Okechi Egbe becomes ninth player to score 1,000


Senior Okechi Egbe became the ninth person in the University of Tennessee at Martin basketball history to score 1,000 career points. Egbe entered tonight’s game against Southeast Missouri needing only two points to reach the 1,000-point mark.

The 6-5 guard from Decatur, Ala., began his senior year with 786 points. Egbe’s started 12 of the Skyhawks’ 22 games this season and he’s averaging 9.6 points per game.

Egbe’s scored a career-high 44 points against Bethel Nov. 20, 2000.

Egbe is No. 5 for most career three-point field goals made and attempted in a career. He’s made 85-of-240. He also is No. 10 in field goals made and field goals attempt in his career as a Skyhawk. He’s made 373-of-803 attempts.

Egbe is the son of Tony and Gloria Egbe of Decatur, Ala. He is a sports management major
