NASCAR finds way to festival

Norm Alan Betz brought a retired 2000 racecar to campus.

Complete with Jeff Gordon's famous racecar number “24,” the car was parked in front of the UC on Tuesday.

Betz said, “It’s great to bring the car back to a small community like Martin.”

A former UTM student from 1993-95, Betz now travels the racing circuit. Labeling himself as a “dropout in good standing,” he now resides in Atlanta.

Betz stated that the racecar ran in Dover, Del., reaching speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour. However, Betz said he had only reached 140 mph in the car. Betz was accompanied by his father, Norm Betz, a resident of Dresden and former chair of excellence professor at UTM. Norm Betz said that he has been trying for several years to bring his son and the NASCAR Tropicana racecar to the Soybean festival.
