Names submitted for Hwy. 43; voting begins


Suggestions for the renaming of the State Route 43, or “Highway 43,” bypass is officially over however its now voting time.

All suggestions have been compiled and the citizens of Martin, along with UTM students, will now be able to vote online, by phone or by stopping by Martin City Hall to vote for their favorite name.

The suggested name receiving the highest number of votes, pending approval from the City Board, will be selected. Names appearing on the ballot are Volleyball Blvd., Unity Drive, Happy Highway, Cookie Cow Lane, 30th Infantry Division Memorial Highway, University Drive, University Parkway, Skyhawk Express, Skyhawk Bypass, Skyhawk Parkway, Green Briar Express, WestStar Blvd., Soybean Pass and Soybean Blvd.

Voting ballots may be obtained at the Martin City Hall or community members can vote online at www.martintennessee.org.

Voters can also call the Martin Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) office at 588-2507 to cast their votes. All votes should be received by Feb. 3, 2003. The winning name will be announced at a city board meeting and the winner will be recognized with a certificate.
