Mug it up for the yearbook; memories will last forever

The students at UTM have struggled in years past in an area that everyone knows about, few people care about and no one speaks up for.

Well, I intend to speak up because I am incredibly disappointed in everyone’s effort, or, better yet, lack of effort when yearbook picture time rolls around.

The Spirit yearbook office offers a chance for students to have their pictures taken FOR FREE every year, but still no one seems to want to get it done.

I wonder how everyone will feel twenty years from now when they pull out their yearbooks to reminisce and finally realize the consequences of their apathetic ways.

It is simply pathetic that any given class may have a thousand members, but there are only twenty pictures representing it in the yearbook.

I know that everyone has other stuff going on. I am an extremely busy person myself.

I just don’t understand why this can not be another little thing worked into people’s schedules.

Everyone finds time for intramurals, Greek activities, club meetings and numerous other “now events”, so why not this?

Fifteen minutes out of one lunch on one day can give the students something to look back on for all time.

The purpose of the yearbook is to immortalize our college lives. Why not let it?

Now, I know that everyone cares about having a yearbook because we, the students, voted last spring to include it in our school fees. Because of this, now is the perfect time for an attitude change.

I want the students to take it upon themselves to get their pictures taken. Allow this yearbook to adequately serve its purpose; we are all getting one.

I want to have a book to cherish and bring back all of my fond memories of Martin.

Unfortunately, if the other students don’t take action, we all will regret it later.
