Mexican and Canadian officials come to UTM to speak on NAFTA

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, two guest speakers, Carl Rockburne and Raul Urteaga-Trani will speak in the Watkins Auditorium from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

Rockburne is the Consul and Trade Commissioner for Agri-culture, Food and Beverages, Arts and Cultural Industries, Rail and Urban Transit, at the Canadian Consulate General in Atlanta. Urteaga-Trani is the Economic Counselor from the NAFTA Office, Embassy of Mexico in Washington DC.

These men will give the Canadian and Mexican perspectives on NAFTA successes and problems to date. The possible expansion of free trade in our hemisphere will be another topic.

There will be a panel discussion on these issues from representatives of government and international businesses in Nashville, Memphis, and in our region. A question and answer session will close out the program.

This lecture will bring insight and possible answers to questions about national security since 9/11 and the future of free trade and economic concerns that are in doubt in today's global market. All students and faculty are encouraged to attend.
