Men’s Tennis defeat Evansville’s squad

UTM’s men’s tennis team turned in a “die hard” effort this past weekend against a good Evansville team and escaped town with a 4-3 win.

UTM’s Marten Tamla lost a close match to Evansville’s Clemens Klein, while Gustavo Anzola knocked off Evansville’s David Crozet, 5-7, 7-6, 6-4. Anzola fought off six match points to claim the victory.

Other Skyhawk winners included Daniel McGuire at No. 5 singles and Adolfo Anzola at No. 6 singles. While Lucas Tregansin and Oltion Mollaymeri lost their matches, they battled through three sets.

Dennis Taylor, the Skyhawks head coach says “I was proud of our players. They stuck to their guns and didn’t give up.

Gustavo Anzola fought off six match points in the second set before finally winning his match in the third set.”

Tregansin’s match against Derek Boland was stopped because Tregansin was bleeding. “Our guys were sliding, diving and doing whatever it took to win,” Taylor said. “But they never gave up.”

Tregansin wasn’t the only one bleeding. Taylor said four or five of his players showed the same type of effort as Tregansin.

The Skyhawks will return to action Sunday against a solid Austin Peay team. Matches get under way at 1 p.m.
