Make-A-Wish benefits from Mr. Greek

The Ladies of Chi Omega presented UTM with the annual Mr. Greek competition. This year’s theme was “Famous Faces.”

The contenders for Mr. Greek included: Matthew McCrory, Rodel Cacas, Blake Armstrong, Ben Byrer, Jake Bynum, Blake Carrington, Steven Huff, Jake Melton, Patrick Parsons, Kris Cantrell, Antony Braswell, Josh Davis and Ben Cope. All fraternities on campus were represented in the competition.

The different categories included casual wear, theme wear and formal wear.

The most unique category was the theme wear. UTM was graced with the presence of famous people such as “Kramer” from Seinfield, Tarzan, Justin Timberlake, Tiger Woods, Bill Clinton, Tom Cruise from Risky Business, Kid Rock, Tim Magraw, “Screech” from Saved by the Bell, Brad Pitt, Julius Ceasar, Richard Nixon, “Wilson” from Home Improvement and Joe Millionare.

After much deliberation by the judges, they announced the top eight. They were: Ben Byrer, Jake Bynum, Blake Carrington, Steven Huff, Jake Melton, Patrick Parsons, Anthony Braswell and Josh Davis.

The top eight then competed in a round that included a question and answer session. The questions were asked by the emcees Hailey Brown, the current Miss UTM and Emily Doyle.

The questions ranged from, “If you were stranded on a island, what three things would you have with you?” to “What is the most important trait in the opposite sex, intelligence or good looks?”

The audience enjoyed some clever and wit-ty answers. While the judges made their final decisions, the sisters of Chi Omega provided some entertainment. Performances were given by Lauren Brannon, Katie Keel and Amber Mc-Adams.

After some much needed deliberation, the judges announced the winner of Mr. Greek 2003.

First place was taken home by Jake Bynum. Bynum is a freshman Marketing major from Dresden. He represented Pi Kappa Alpha.

Second place was given to Anthony Braswell. Braswell is a sophomore Nursing major from Westmoreland. He represented Kappa Alpha Order.

And third place was presented to Josh Davis, a freshman Ag. Business major from McEwen who represented Alpha Gamma Rho.

The commotion was not only fun, but it also benefitted a great cause. All the proceeds went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Its mission is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses, in order to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

The organization was established in 1980 and has served over 97,000 children. The sisters of Chi Omega raised $2,000 for their philanthropy.

Phi Sigma Kappa and Alpha Omicron Pi won the participation awards for the event.

Mr. Greek was a part of the Greek Week festivities.
