‘Let Go’ with new punk sound, individualism

***** of 5

If you are looking for another artist singing about love, playa hata’s or sappy music, you will not find it with 17-year-old Avril Lavigne.

Making her debut in the music industry, Avril Lavigne brings a bit of punk music and a feeling of individuality in her first album Let Go.

According to her Web site, Lavigne says, “I’m just coming out and I’m going to clearly be myself. I write what I feel, I never worry what others think. I’m gonna dress what’s me, I’m gonna act what’s me and I’m gonna sing what’s me.”

It is not surprising that, with great vocals and a real-girl image, Lavigne’s Let Go currently sits at number two on the Billboard Top 100 Albums charts.

Her first two singles, Complicated and Sk8ter Boy, are also climbing the charts with Complicated sitting at number three on the Billboard Top 100 Singles charts and Sk8ter Boy sitting at number three on MTV’s Total Request Live.

Let Go opens up with Losing Grip, a song about the truth of rejection, with lyrics stating “why should I care, cause you weren’t there when I was scared, I was so alone.”

Lavigne writes all of her own music. Her songs deal with the emotions and situations she’s experienced in life.

“When I get upset and really need to get it out of me, I go to my guitar,” says Lavigne. “Sometimes I feel like my guitar is my therapist.”

Let Go also features chart-topping hits such as Complicated and Sk8ter Boy.

Complicated is best des-cribed by a review as “kicking pretenders to the curb.” The lyrics are real and allow listeners to feel what she feels. Everyone knows what she means when she sings, “Why do you have to go and make things so complicated, I see the way you’re acting like you’re someone else gets me frustrated.”

“Complicated wasn’t written about anyone in particular,” said Lavigne on her Web site. “It is basically about life, people being fake and relationships.”

“Sk8ter Boy deals with two people on the opposite sides of society. The girl does not give a guy a chance because of what her friends think. In the end, the boy makes it big and the girl regrets the decision she made just because of what her friends think.

Let Go is filled with songs that have great lyrics and real meaning behind the songs.

Lavigne is not afraid to sing what she feels and her album shows it.

“I can’t wait to be out there; I want to rock the world!” said Lavigne. “I want people to know that my music is real and honest -it came from my heart. I was just being true to myself.”

I would recommend this album to anyone who is tired of listening to music that is trendy now, but won’t last. Lavigne sings about what she feels and that is what is cool about her music.
