Lack of common sense makes news often

Lately it's been hard to believe a lot of things in the news, and I'm left wondering what these people have been thinking. Now, I'll admit I've done a lot of dumb stuff, but some people obviously lack the sense they were born with. And it's because of those people that stupidity has taken on a whole new meaning.

Last weekend, a Harlem, N.Y., man was treated for injuries after being mauled by a tiger. His own pet, a 425-pound Bengal-Siberian tiger, attacked the 37-year-old after he tried to stop it from terrorizing a kitten. Not only that, but he also kept a 5.5 foot Caiman alligator in the housing project in which he lived.

Doctors at the hospital he was taken to said he has an infection, but in order to evade prosecution for having the exotic pets, he escaped from the hospital shortly after.

Just when you thought Kobe Bryant had done enough apologizing with the $4 million ring, he refuses to stop. Now he's gotten a new tattoo -- of his wife's name, Vanessa, over a halo with angel wings. Kobe said she's his guardian angel, but I can name one time when she probably wasn't watching over him.

OK, so we know it's illegal in some places to talk on your cell phone while driving, but what about singing? The laws may soon change thanks to the Oregon man who crashed into a tree after a yellow jacket flew in his mouth while he was singing along to Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body." I don't know what's worse, him having to get stitches in his tongue or the fact that he was a grown man singing a Justin Timberlake song.

As if we needed another reason to be skeptical of some police, a Syracuse, N.Y., man adds to the list. A few days ago, the 22-year-old was charged with impersonating a Syracuse sheriff's deputy. He was caught after he called for backup when the truck he pulled over fled. He said traffic violators were his main targets.

Of course, we've all heard the saying, "I love you to death," but we never take it literally. A California woman, who was convicted of setting her husband on fire in the garage of their home 20 years ago, now wants to be buried in the gravesite next to his. Allegedly, she killed him after an argument over not wanting him to go to work in Saudi Arabia. The 72-year-old was granted a compassionate release from prison, having only two months to live. However, her stepdaughter said she hopes she sells the plot.

Finally, last month, a Pennsylvania high school quarter back was assaulted by his teammates for throwing too many interceptions. Reportedly, they taped him in a chair and rubbed pain reliever on his face before breaking his jawbone.

The really bad part is that it was only a junior varsity game.
