Klein offers piano workshop at UTM


World-renowned pianist Andreas Klein will highlight a November Piano Workshop sponsored by the UTM department of music.

The workshop is set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 in the Harriet Fulton Theatre, located in the Fine Arts Building.

A special feature of the morning will be the world-renowned performing artist Andreas Klein, who will discuss piano repertoire and lead a master class from 10 a.m. to noon.

Klein is a world-class pianist whose solo career has taken him to the world’s most prestigious venues.

He is frequently heard on National Public Radio’s Performance Today and the PBS series Intermezzo with Andreas Klein.

Klein’s appearance at the Piano Workshop is sponsored by the UTM Arts Council.

Additional workshop sessions will include “Effective Practice Techniques” by Dr. Allison Nelson, UTM professor emerita of music; “Performance Practice in Baroque Keyboard Music” by Scott Roberts, UTM assistant professor of music; “Massage for Pianists” by Phil and Carole Stone, licensed massage therapists; and “Piano Maintenance and Repair” by Elwood Doss, UTM staff keyboard technician.

In addition, there will be performances by the UTM Faculty Piano Quartet and the UTM Piano Ensemble directed by Dr. Elaine Harriss, associate professor of music.

Teachers, performers and students are invited to attend. The cost for the full workshop is $50 for adults, $30 for students.
