Kim performs senior voice recital

Performing for the last time, Jae-Young Kim, a senior Vocal Performance major from South Korea, gave his senior recital on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Kim sang many of his pieces in Italian, German, French, English and his last song in his native tongue of Korean. Delana Easley, staff accompanist, accompanied Kim on his recital with the piano.

Kim did an astounding job with his tenor vocals. Many of the songs were well performed and his diction was excellent.

His recital consisted of a variety of composers such as Claude Debussy, George Frederic Handel, Alessandro Scarlatti and various other composers.

A good piece that Kim performed was Ouvre Ton Coeur by Georges Bizet.

The French song is asking the lover to open their heart to accept his love.Kim had a good range of vocals with good diction.

Kim ended his recital with O, Come Home (Korean Hymn) by Jae-Hun Park.

It was truly remarkable to see Kim sing the Korean Hymn. Audience members could tell that he was truly proud of his heritage.

“I feel very comfortable now,” said Kim, “I am almost done with school and there is no need to practice anymore.”

At the end of the recital, Kim’s wife went down and presented him with flowers.

It was truly one step closer to graduating and a sign that he had indeed performed well and accomplished a lot.
