Justice prevails in SAC film

The Hurricane is a movie of inspiration based on a true story about boxer Rubin “The Hurricane” Carter. The movie skips parts of Carter’s real story but is generally based on Carter’s autobiography.

Yes, this is another movie that revolves around a man imprisoned for a crime that he did not commit. One thing places it above the rest, though; Denzel Washington. He turned this story into an inspirational experience that is riveting and unforgettable.

In this movie, Denzel Washington steps into the shoes of Carter for the intense role of a wrongfully convicted murderer. He was outstanding in his role as a strong boxer who had all the odds against him, but who gained dignity while incarcerated.

This movie traces Rubin Carter’s early childhood and his rise to a boxing champion. It then tells the story of how Carter was wrongfully imprisoned for shooting three people in a New Jersey bar. In 1966, he was convicted by an all white jury and sentenced to three life terms for triple murder.

Carter wrote an autobiography while in prison, The 16th Round, which drew attention to his case, especially that of Lesra Martin, played by Vicellous Shannon. Martin was a young man who was so inspired by Carter’s book that he and his friends dedicated their lives to freeing him.

It turned out that a racist policeman was framing Carter for the murders. So, after many appeals, he was released from prison in 1985.

Overall, this movie was a powerful story of passion, danger, intensity, and inspiration.

“It is a great story of one man’s commitment to justice. That is the kind of movie you always remember,” said Emily Payne, a freshman from Memphis.

As for the movie being shown in the University Center, the remarks were favorable. The moviegoers agreed that they like watching movies here because it is a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Many of them said they attend these movies on a regular basis.
