Intramural basketball crowns champs


It is again that time of the year, the time of the year when the college basketball world is going crazy. It is March Madness.

It is only fitting that the same would go for UTM intramural basketball. The season ended with the championships being played on Tuesday, March 9.

The men's claw league ended with the Leatherballs winning the championship 37-30 over the Ballers. The game was close through out with the Leatherballs being on top at the half 17-16. They never looked back in the second half increasing their lead to as much as nine points. The Leatherballs made it through the season with an undefeated record of 9-0. In the tournament, they won three games in order to make it to the championship game. They defeated Triple 6 in the first round and went on to beat Open Range and the Tardyboys respectively.

In the women's talon league Risky Business played Zero Tolerance for the championship. Zero Tolerance came into the tournament undefeated while Risky Business came in with one loss. Both teams were forced to win two games in the tournament in order to make it to the championship. In the championship, it was Risky Business however that walked away with the win in a decisive victory over Zero Tolerance 48-30.

In one of the best men's talon league in a while The Unit defeated the KA's by a score of 53-44. The KA's came into the game with and undefeated record of 9-0 and winning three games in the tournament to make it to the championship. The Unit came in with one loss on the season and in the semifinals defeated, the three time defending Champion Dem Dawgs to make it to the championship game.

In the Jack and Jill league, Da Show defeated 4D's by the score of 45-42. Da Show came into the tournament with a perfect regular season record of 6-0 and only having to win one game to make it to the championship. 4D's came into the tournament with one loss and had to win two games to make it into the championship where they were defeated by three points.

"The season was very good. We had almost 50 teams compete this year. The men's talon league was the best it has been in my three years here. The Unit beat Dem Dawgs who had won the previous three years. Overall the discipline wasn't bad and it was a really good season", Eric Simmons, Intramural Director said.
