Instructional Technology Center hosts showcase

The Instructional Technology Center and the UTM Computer Store will join teams with Dell, Gateway, Apple and Microsoft to host the 2004 Technology Showcase.

The event will be held March 10, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., in the main hallway of the Boling University Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Faculty members from the university will be on hand to demonstrate how they are using technology in and out of the classroom. “There will also be many new hardware and software technologies on display for visitors to see and touch.
We will also be giving away some of the hottest products available today,” said Steve Holt, director of the UT Martin ITC. Some of the items to be given away include a Kodak digital camera, an Epson Ink Jet Printer, a JVC DVD/VCR combo, a March Madness 2004 game for Playstation II and a LEXAR key chain jump drive.

Participants may register for the drawings during the showcase in the UT Martin Computer Store, located in Room 108, Boling University Center.

A new event to the showcase is an X-Box tournament where students can compete against each other to win prizes. Students wishing to participate in this event may sign up the morning of the showcase in the University Center. “The Technology Showcase gives us the opportunity to show the campus and the local community the things that our faculty members and departments are doing in and out of the classroom in regard to technology,” said Holt.

“We feel that UT Martin is on the cutting edge of learning in higher education, and this even will show you exactly what we are doing.” For more information about the showcase, contact Holt at 587-7609; e-mail him at sholt@utm.edu; or visit the 2004 Technology Showcase Web site at http://www.utm.edu/showcase.
