Indian Cultural Association invites students to 'Indian Fashion Show'

This year has brought with it many changes in our, world, new understandings of life outside the United States, and an appreciation for people with different beliefs. The Indian Cultural Association has been established at the University of Tennessee at Martin to help students understand the culture and lifestyle of India. The handful of UTM students of Indian heritage lives bicultural lives and feel that sharing the rich culture and traditions with our fellow students is a privilege. ICA was established as an organization for all interested students and faculty. We work to show how we have blended our cultures and take pride in being both American and Indian. At our last meeting, we discussed in an open forum customs and festivals of India. Future plans are for a lunch trip to an authentic Indian restaurant in Memphis and more open discussion about aspects of Indian culture, among other things.
In particular, we will be holding a fashion show to display the traditional (and modernized) dresses. The members of ICA would like to extend an invitation to the UTM campus to join us at 7 p.m. on April 1, in the Legislative Chambers for our Indian Fashion Show. Through knowledge comes respect and understanding. The Indian Cultural Association invites you to join in exploring the traditions and customs, the timeless culture of India. Manika Sharma is a senior Biology major from Martin.
