I'm tired of the same old thing in the Pacer

Yes. I’m tired of the same old thing: The Pacer staff bitching about the opinions of the students.

Wasn’t your title “Tired of the same old thing? Speak up!” meant to encourage (in some negative sense, obviously) students to post opinions? Then what’s wrong if their opinion has to do with the Pacer being full of useless content?

Okay – with that said, I guess I can tell you my opinion. I think the Pacer has improved quite a bit. The online feature is definitely a great attribute. The printed version also looks more appealing than in some of the past years.

As far as the content of the paper – I guess I’m indifferent. How exciting can the news in Martin, Tenn. be? It’s hard to have interesting content when there’s nothing interesting happening, and I can understand that.

However, I’m led once again...to the Opinions section. If the Pacer staff feels that they have to: write something ‘last minute’, have the Ask Advice girl section only because it’s used to ‘fill up empty space’ or are ‘forced to write an opinion’ for no other reason than to have text on page 3, then I suggest you minimize the Opinion section to things that aren’t meant for that

And if that means no opinion section, then that’s what it means. Secondly – here’s an amazing suggestion. Instead of apologizing to your professors because you stayed up so late ‘being forced to write for the Pacer’ - write it EARLIER!

That’s similar to saying “Sorry Dr. Kolitsch, if I fail my Calculus test” when you started studying 10 minutes before it was given.

Somehow I can’t find the strength to pity that.

Also – how long does it take to write it? I’m certain I’ve spent no more than 15 minutes organizing my thoughts for this, and while I was tempted to wait until 1 a.m. to begin writing it, I decided that probably it’d be more reasonable and easy to write it during a daytime hour. Silly me.

Lastly – aside from the hints of sarcasm I’ve injected and the positive/negative comments that I’ve let slip out, I really thought that writing for the Pacer was something that the staff would enjoy, instead of something the staff is “forced” to do.

Maybe I was wrong – or perhaps it’s all just a matter of opinion.
