Hunters, voters, lend me your ears

With the pending election, I’ve seen, heard, and have read a common misconception that has been troubling me.

If you are a hunter ,historically speaking, with such organizations such as the NRA backing Republicans on many occasions, you have voted Republican (derived from conversations with NRA members, personal websites, as well as Historical voting charts I’ve read).

Well, this Web site may surprise a few of you, go to www.issues2002.org and check the voting records of our great candidates from this state.

Van Hilleary, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, has voted NO on the Kyoto Protocol; a U.N. resolution requiring developed countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by five percent.

What even troubled me more was the YES vote he cast to allow drilling in this nation’s largest wildlife refuge, the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge.

As an avid hunter in this great state, I could never consider the destruction of one inch of valuable refuge space anywhere in the country.

Most hunters and wildlife enthusiasts know migratory game such as ducks and geese travel to the northern most regions of this continent on their northern migrations.

Is the cost of cheaper oil prices our environment? Also the urban legend of Democrats wanting to take away your guns is also untrue.

This right is protected by the U.S. Constitution and will never be taken away; too many American lives have been lost to ever let this right go. Republicans and Democrats will both agree on this.

In retrospect, Van Hilleary is no friend of the hunter as he claims to be. Go to website mentioned above and check the voting records.

Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, Independent or whatever, check the issues. Make your decision, but most importantly… get out and VOTE!
