Homecoming court, parade highlight week


Cajun music filled the air as UTM students celebrated Homecoming week.

The week started with the kick-off bonfire at Pacer Pond with a fireworks show to finish the day.

The students got their first chance to meet the Homecoming queen candidates with voting beginning that afternoon.

Ropepull got under way Monday with pulls continuing on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Tuesday night was highlighted by the SAC Street Dance on Hannings Lane. Papa Sol sang and filled the air with music as students danced and had a good time.

Students competed in the Sidewalk Chalk contest on Wednesday with the SAC Blizzard Bucks wrapping up the day that night.

Comedians Joe Clair and Sylvia entertained UTM following the city of Martin mayoral debate in Watkins Auditorium Thursday night.

Friday was a busy day with Ropepull finals and consolation pulls.

AGR beat Pike for the fraternity championship with AOPi beating Chi Omega for the sorority title. SAE beat KA for third place among fraternities while ZTA out-pulled ADPi for th third spot in the sorority division.

UTM soccer beat Morehead State, 10-3, with UTM Volleyball sweeping Tennessee State, 3-0.

The Pyramid Building Pep Rally followed the volleyball match in the Elam Center.

The week wrapped up Saturday. The Homecoming Parade started at 10 a.m., followed by the football game at two p.m.

Homecoming banners were judged before the game.

The week ended with the NPHC Greekshow in the Fieldhouse, featuring step shows from UTM’s NPHC organizations.
