UTM offers program for aspiring entrepreneurs

With the job market as it is today, have you ever considered beginning your own business? If not, think about it for a moment. Is there any particular field that you would enjoy working in on a daily basis?

If so, then the entrepreneurship program at UTM is a great program to check out. Entrepreneurship is one of the few remaining fields where the owner has total control of the business. The entrepreneurship program offers ways that students can venture into the job market and create new ideas and trends for others. The opportunities come from beginning a business, being part of huge corporation, or by being a participant of a huge business and advancing it. The program teaches students to notice the opportunities and take full advantage of them. As with the business world, students are expected to learn how to work along with one another, particularly in teams.

Students majoring in Marketing with a concentration in Entrepreneurship must take the following courses: Accounting 321, Management 303, Management 305, Management 306, either Management 320 or 330, Marketing 302, technical electives and upper-division business electives.

For those desiring to be certified in the field, the following courses are required: Marketing 302, Management 305, Management 306, and technical electives.

While in the classroom the students will learn how to expand their knowledge in a particular area, increase products and services, and produce detailed business plans and ways to start their particular business.

For more information on the program, see the website at www.utm.edu/admin/catalog04/, the UTM catalog, or Dr. John Overby in the Business Administration building.
