Gospel Blowout a hit at UTM

Groups come from across the nation to bring gospel to UTM

The UTM campus was treated to gospel music at the second annual Gospel Blowout. The blowout took place in the Student Life Center on March 31. This event was sponsored by UTM sophomore, Jason Price, who is also a youth minister on campus and at his church in Memphis.

The acts came from near and far to bring gospel music to UTM this past Friday night. The first act was a group called JVP, which featured UTM students. Other featured acts included Joey Parker & Anointed By Christ and Eric Price II. Price returned to UTM for the second time to perform his popular song “Showtime.” He let the audience know that it’s all right to dance for Jesus.

Guest speaker, Raymond Orr, flew from Dallas, TX. He is an elder at the Potters’ House church where the Bishop T.D. Jakes is the pastor. He came to deliver a special message to UTM students. He expressed to the audience its okay to have a dream, but do not be afraid to explain it to those who may want to help you.

Orr also brought with him his latest book A Dream and a Dollar. He offered to students for a special one-time offer of $1, the normal price being $10.

Another author was present to introduce a new book to students called Cloud Nine. This book includes nine principles for young adults who want to live a Christian lifestyle.

Some students felt that the Gospel Blowout delivered a long overdue dose of inspiration. Natasha Hudson, freshman Secondary Education major from Memphis, TN said, “The Gospel Blowout was uplifting and inspiring. I can’t wait until next year.”

“It was truly an exhilarating experience,” said Carlton Lewis, senior Management Information Systems major, from Memphis.

The Gospel Blowout will be an annual event on UTM’s campus. Jason Price also offers Bible Study every Monday night in Ellington Hall’s closed lobby. Rethinking Every Avenue of Life or R.E.A.L. Bible study is open to everyone who would like to participate.
