Golf team takes 2nd at Ross Creek Classic


The UTM golf team finished second in the Ross Creek Landing Classic played Monday and Tuesday, March 10 and 11, at Bear Trace Golf Course in Clifton, Tenn.

The Skyhawk golfers shot a two-round 609, while tournament host North Alabama Purple shot a 602 to win the two-day classic.

Lincoln University was third with a 627, while North Alabama Gold was fourth with a 664. Freed Hardeman was fifth with a 666 and Shorter College was sixth with a 680.

Junior Jamie Ball, from Ontario, Canada, led the Skyhawk golfers with a two-day 152. He shot a 77 in the first round and a three-over-par 75 in the final round.

Clint Rochelle, a junior from Centerville, Tenn., shot a 153. He turned in a three-over-par 75 in Monday's first round and finished up with a 78. Rochelle's first-round 75 was the lowest Skyhawk first-round score.

Ball and Rochelle were named to the all-classic team for their efforts.

Scott Carpenter, a junior from Martin, and Zach Jaworski, a sophomore from Cordova, shot two-day 154s. Carpenter carded 77s in both the first and second rounds, while Jaworski shot an 80 and 74.

Freshman walk-on Reise Kelly, from Nashville, shot a 155. He had an 81 and a 74.

The Skyhawk golfers will return to action March 31-April 1 in the 10th annual Amoco Ultimate Intercollegiate Classic in Jacksonville, Ala.
