Golf finishes 17th at Amoco Ultimate/Young Tournament


The UTM golf team finished 17th in the Jacksonville State University Amoco Ultimate/Young Oil Intercollegiate in Glencoe, Ala.

The Skyhawks turned in rounds of 312, 327 and 314. Freshman Reise Kelly led the Skyhawks' effort with a 234.

Kelly, who finished tied for 46th, fired rounds of 75, 81 and 78. Heath Prescott finished with a three-round total of 239. Prescott, who hails from Florida, shots rounds of 78, 84 and 77. Jamie Ball, shot a 241, while Clint Rochelle shot 243.

Zach Jaworski was one shot back with a 244. Host Jacksonville State fired a 293 in the final round to post a 54-hole total of 880 to win the 18-team tournament.

Jacksonville State, who joins the Ohio Valley Conference next year, placed four players in the top 15.

Other OVC schools participating in the Amoco Ultimate/Young Oil Intercollegiate included Austin Peay, fourth; Tennessee Tech, seventh; Murray State, 12th; and Morehead State, 15th. The Skyhawk golfers will return to action next week when they play in the Belmont University Invitational in Franklin, Tenn on Monday, April the 7th.
