Gen. Wesley Clark uses UTM pool for morning swim before hitting the road

Cori Vermilyea, University of Tennessee at Martin campus recreation supervisor and a senior from Dickson, talks with former Democratic presidential candidate, Gen. Wesley Clark, after his early morning swim Monday in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center pool at UT Martin.

Clark left Martin to make remarks at a press conference at the Hampton Centre in Union City before a group of 80 area residents prior to Tuesday Democratic primary balloting in Tennessee.

General Clark ended his run for the presidency after the Tennessee and Virginia primaries. Clark said in a speech that although is run for the presidency is over, his campaigning for America’s future is not. “Together, five months ago, we began our journey for the presidency. We had no money, no office and no staff. All we had was hope and a vision for a better America.

Today, after traveling the country, after visiting with the American people, we end that journey even more full of hope and even more committed to building a better America. I will support our Party's nominee, to continue this campaign until we take back the White House next November. This soldier stands ready for duty. It's not going to be easy. So I've got one bit of advice for our nominee: give 'em hell and never retreat.

As a general who spent thirty-four years fighting for my country, here is my pledge: I will do everything I can - everything - to make sure George W. Bush doesn't play politics with national security,” Clark said.

In 1962, Wes Clark was admitted to the United States Military Academy and began a 38-year career of public service in the United States Army, where he became a four-star general, a trainer of soldiers, a leader of troops, equally accomplished in war and in peace.
