From the Sideline

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another year of UTM athletics.

I am really excited about this year, not only because it is my last one but because the Skyhawk sports teams have a lot of promise this season.

It was great to walk into Graham Stadium last Thursday and see the stands packed with students and community members. The fact that we won made the night even better, but it was really great to see everyone out.

It would have been nice to see more people out to the game last night, but I will just go ahead and assume that everyone is saving their energy to come to the game and see the beating that the Skyhawks will lay down on Kentucky Wesleyan.

But football isn’t the only sport that we have, though it does take most of the attention.

We also have the blessing of having one of the premier volleyball teams in this part of the country in our back yard.

The Skyhawk volleyball team won the OVC regular season championship last season and was runner-up in the conference tournament.

The squad returns this season in tact and ready for another stellar year.

The Skyhawks have already traveled to California for a very competitive tournament and will take on nationally ranked Arkansas this weekend.

UTM will have its first home match Sept. 17, so everyone needs to make it out to the Fieldhouse that night to give the Skyhawks a great homecoming.

The soccer team is off to its best start ever, even if that is 1-1.

They will be beating up on, i mean playing Arkansas State Sunday at 1 p.m. at Skyhawk Field.

Soccer is a great sport, especially when watching someone like Sherrie Weeks out there with her brutal finesse.

Just so i don’t leave him out, everyone needs to go see my boy Philip Rhodes and the cross country team this fall also.
