Freshman Myrick makes impact on team, conference

Who is in the top ten in the Ohio Valley Conference in every offensive category? Who recorded only the second hat trick in UTM history?

Freshman Dani Myrick has come in and made her presence known not only with the Skyhawks, but in the OVC.

The 5-5 Pre-dentistry major from Oklahoma City, Okla. has started in all nine of the Skyhawks' matches, scoring eight goals on 18 shots. She also has two assists on the season.

“It has been a dream of mine to do well playing soccer in college,” said Myrick.

UTM was one of a few schools that were recruiting Dani, but it was when she came to visit and watch the team play Florida Atlantic that the Skyhawks made an impact on her.

“I felt that I mixed well with the team and I really liked them,” said Myrick.

Going from what brought her to Martin to what is keeping her here, Myrick said, “I love playing soccer and I am actually having fun playing soccer. The team is great and I feel that the freshman class has really connected.”

Dani didn’t come to UTM without friends. Three current Skyhawks called Dani “teammate” before this season. Lindsey Tilk and Katie Jackson were teammates on their club team in Oklahoma. Dani also played with her teammate and roommate Sarah Barnes in the All-State game where they both played for the West team.

Dani is enjoying college so far. Her favorite moment has been her hat trick that she had against Austin Peay, but aside from that she says that she is enjoying “learning to be myself and just learning a lot.”
