Flu season is here; Student Health offers flu vaccines

Adults, with the flu, become infectious the day before symptoms appear through the fifth day after symptoms begin.

The vaccines offered each fall—intended to target the flu expected in winter are 70 to 90 percent effective in preventing the flu.

When it doesn’t prevent the flu, it will lessen the severity of the illness.

The normal flu season is November through April, but it takes awhile for the vaccine to take effect, so it is recommended that flu shots be given during the month of October.

Several flu clinics have been scheduled in various campus locations and departments. If we are coming to you, please do not come to Student Health to receive your vaccine.

This is an extremely busy time of year in our office and it will be much quicker if you wait for your scheduled time.

Student Health is following the immunization schedule of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and will begin administering flu vaccines beginning October 8th.

Any student can stop by Student Health between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and receive a flu shot for $10.
