Flag football champs crowned

The Intramural Flag Football Playoffs started on Tuesday Oct. 29 and lasted through Sunday Nov. 3.

This was a fierce competition as each team wanted to win the championship. The winner of the championship gets to go New Orleans, Dec. 27-30, to play in the National Flag Football Championship sponsored by Foot Locker.

This year there were four different leagues that played flag football. They were the Jack and Jill teams, which were made up of guys and girls, Men’s Talon, Women’s Talon, and Men’s Claw.

Saturday was a cold day to watch football but many went out to support their favorite team to win. At 11:00 the Jack and Jill teams battled it out with the Omegas and a Pike playing COCSC and The Carneys playing Broken Lizards.

The winners from those games were Omegas and a Pike beating COCSC 31-0 and The Carneys winning over Broken Lizards 25-11.

The next games were at noon featuring The Tools vs. Disturbed and Pike vs. ATO. Disturbed came out on top beating The Tools 41-39.

It was a close game with Pike beating ATO 28-21 winning the fraternity championship. In the afternoon, PGMF went on to beat the Ballers 26-6 and Demolition won over Squirrels 7-0. In the sorority championship, Chi Omega won by beating AOPi 35-13. Both Chi Omega and Pike would then go on to play for the overall championship in their leagues.

The final championship was held on Sunday night Nov. 3. The first game was for the women’s championship.

Chi Omega and Risky Business were the two teams who made it to the finals. Risky Business beat Chi Omega with a score of 27-0.

The next championship was between the coed teams The Carneys and Omegas and a Pike. The winner of the Jack and Jill competition was the Omegas and a Pike winning 2-0.

The Men’s Talon championship was next with Demolition playing Pike. Pike comes out to win it 7-6. The final championship game of the evening was with the Men’s Claw tournament.

The two teams that battled it out were PGMF and Disturbed.

PGMF went on to win the championship by beating Disturbed 14-12.

Pike, Risky Business, and Omegas and a Pike are the teams that will go on to play in New Orleans for the National Flag Football Championship. Good Luck to all the teams that will be representing UTM in New Orleans.
