‘Femme Fatale’ portrays racy side, has exceptional eye candy

Femme Fatale R Warner Bros. dir. Brian De Palma *** out of 5 stars

To be honest, one thing compelled me to check out the film Femme Fatale: eye candy.

This sexy thriller stars everybody’s favorite model turned actress with three names, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. Her average acting is overshadowed by her other, um, attributes.
Femme Fatale, which co-stars Antonio Banderas (you get something to look at too, ladies), actually turned out to be a good movie in its own right. It’s about a woman who tries to start a new life but is haunted by her shady past.

I know, the whole shady past thing has been beat to death, but hey, a new premise is hard to come by these days.

The opening scene, about a jewelry heist at a high-brow French film premiere, is brilliant. The classical score sets the mood perfectly.

After the heist, Lily (Romijn-Stamos) flees to America to escape her cohorts whom she double-crossed and marries a rich businessman.

Everything is great until he decides to buy the diplomat’s job to yep, you guessed it, France.

Now’s she dodging the media to hide her true identity.
Enter Nicolas (Banderas), a struggling photographer that does paparazzi work on the side only to pay the bills. He takes her picture, immediately feels bad about it, and is caught up in a web of lies and deceit dreamed up by Lily.

Overall, Femme Fatale is a solid choice.

Come for the racy fun, stay for the stylish filmmaking.
