‘Fear.com’ remakes plot of ‘The Ring’

*** of 5

If your worst fear could kill you, would you visit a Web site that could find out your most inner fear and use it to kill you?

After four people have died in the city of New York due to unknown causes, police detective Mike Reilly (Stephen Dorff) and health examiner Terry Huston (Natascha McElhone) find a common link to the deaths.

All four have died 48 hours after visiting a Web site at www.feardotcom.com.

Not knowing the exact cause of death, detective Reilly goes to the Web site and finds out that there is more to the Web site than expected.

The site is a place for Internet viewers to witness live deaths and tortures. The strange aspect of the Web site is that it knows your name and who you are. Everything about you... even your worst fear.

Having 48 hours to solve the riddle of the Web site, each viewer must find the answer or else they will die of their worst fear.

The movie does get a little confusing at the beginning, often switching from one story to the next, but towards the middle most viewers can pick out the basic plot of the movie.

It’s similar to the plot of The Ring because they had seven days to live after watching the video. With this movie, the people had two days to live before dying.

Both movies have strange deaths and signs of the death about to come.

The ending is surprising though. It’s interesting how the director and writers thought of the primary reason why the people were dying.

Although the movie is slow at times, it is very suspenseful. The actors did a good job, but the actions are fairly predictable.

Yes, the Web site can kill you if you go to it, so of course, the two main characters looked at the Web site.

If you liked The Ring, then I would recommend this movie. If not, it is a good movie if you’re into psychological thrillers and suspense movies.
