Doyle crowned Ms. Greek 2002

Emily Doyle of Chi Omega won the 2002 Ms. Greek pageant, sponsored by the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) which was held on Tuesday, Oct. 29 in the Watkins Auditorium.

Doyle is a sophomore Nursing major from Union City. Rachel Mansfield of Alpha Omicron Pi (AOPi) was chosen as first runner-up and Kathryn Douglas of AOPi was named second runner-up.

The participation award of the evening went to the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA). This award went to the organization with the highest number of members in attendance.

The emcees for the evening were Miss Tennessee Valli Kugler and Eric Maupin, an AGR alumni.

Twenty contestants competed for the title of Ms. Greek this year.

The pageant had three main cateogories: casual wear, theme wear and formal wear.

After the formal wear, eight contestants were picked to return to answer a question. They then came out one by one drawing a number to decide which question they would be asked. This would then help determine the winners.

This year’s theme was Women of Walt Disney. The theme wear was the most entertaining part of the pageant as the women got to express themselves through the characters of Walt Disney.

They dazzeled us with characters, such as Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Tinkerbell, Queen of Hearts, Lilo and Stitch, Alice in Wonderland, Pocahontas, Minnie Mouse, Jasmine, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Cruella Deville and Jessie from Toy Story 2.

Every contestant wore creative costumes that kept the audience captivated.

The entertainment for the evening was a slide show provided by AGR and a wonderful solo by Kugler.

All the proceeds this year went to the farm bureau for Agriculture in the Classroom, which provides teachers to attend workshops to learn more about agriculture. Then, through the teachers, the students are able to learn more about it.

AGR presented a check for $5,000 to Charles Curtis who represented the farm bureau.

During the evening, the brothers of AGR presented their mom, Mom Toon, with a bouquet of flowers to show their appreciation to her.

Mom Toon is from Gallatin and has been with them since the beginning of the semester.

There was also drawings for door prizes and a raffle for two tickets to the Tennessee/ Kentucky game and a two-night stay at the Holiday Inn Select in Knoxville.

“I had a lot of fun participating in Ms. Greek this year,” Doyle said. “I thought that at first, I was going to be nervous, but I was just fine once I knew that I had my sisters being me.”
