Don't get purged

It's that time again!

Soon, the Business Office will be mailing students fee payment information packets and class confirmation cards. If the office doesn't get the confirmation cards back by January 3, 2003, then the student will have their classes purged. Julie Barron, the Accounting Supervisor for Business Affairs, tells how to avoid getting purged.

First, students must confirm their registration. They can do this in one of three ways. The first way to confirm your enrollment is to send back the confirmation card that the Business Office will mail to your permanent address. Secondly, you can go to the office (Room 116 of the Administration building) and confirm your enrollment in person. Thirdly, enrollment can be confirmed on Banner, accessible from the UTM Web site at http://www.utm.edu.

Be aware that all charges must be paid before 5 p.m., January 3, 2003.

Even if financial aid or scholarships pay your tuition, you should check (either on Banner or by calling the Business office) to make sure you don't have other charges on your balance, such as phone bills or parking tickets. Deferment prepayments must also be made before this time.

And no matter how your fees are paid, you must still confirm your enrollment.

If your classes are purged, you will have to reregister. “You have to start all over [registering classes],” said Julie Barron.

And even if you do reregister, if your classes aren't confirmed by January 10, your schedule will be purged again. For students with financial aid: Refund checks will become available on the following dates:

• Last name beginning with C,D,H,I,K,N,P,Q,R,U,V,W,X,Y, or Z-Jan 7, 2003 (8:10-4:30)

• Last name beginning with A,B,E,F,G,J,L,M,O,S, or T-Jan 8, 2003 (8:10-4:30)

• All students completing registration on Jan. 4 or later-Jan 9, 2003 (8:10-4:30)

You may need to repay part of your excess check if you withdraw from classes, drop classes (either during the first week or later), or do not begin attendance in all classes.
