Denman gives final recital, special dedication to parents

On Monday, November 11 Lori Denman, a senior Music Education major from Dyersburg, presented her last performance in her senior voice recital.

She began her recital singing a few non-English pieces. She sang pieces in German, French and Italian.

One of her Italian pieces, Chi vuol la Zingarella by Giovanni Paisiello is asking, “Who wants a dancing girl?”

She did a marvelous job singing with her soprano voice. The song seemed to be a fun piece that was up tempo and quick. Her last non-English piece was Se tu mi Guardi (If you look at me) from Mondo Cane by Riz Ortolani and Nino Oliviero.

The piece was an emotional one for her to sing, but it was dedicated to her parents.

According to Denman, it was emotional because it was her parents’ song for each other, which was played at their wedding.

At the end of the song, Denman mouthed the words “I love you” to her parents. It was truly a special thing to witness.

“The ending phrase of Se tu mi Guardi was just gorgeous,” said Tim Fritz, a senior Music Education major from Hendersonville.

The second half of her recital consisted of English pieces, many of which came from musicals.

Denman sang three pieces by composer Richard Hundley, My Master Hath a Garden, Come Ready and See me and Bartholomew Green.

Bartholomew Green seemed to an interesting and fun piece for Denman to sing.

She has a pretty voice and her movements made the song even more entertaining.

Denman also sang I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady, Send in the Clowns from A Little Night Music, To Keep My Love Alive from A Connecticut Yankee Revival and many others.

“My favorite piece is Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany’s because I’m a big Audry Hepburn fan,” Denman said. After graduation, Denman will teach music privately. As many before her has said, Denman also agrees, “I’m glad it’s over!”

“It is very rewarding to see Lori do such a fine job on her senior recital,” said her accompanist Delana Easley, staff accompanist for UTM. “I know that she has invested so much time into it.”
