Counselor urges registration for SABER training

Register Now for SABER Training!

Saber had a great meeting Tuesday night. Many thanks to Dr. High and the LEAD Academy presenters. It is important that everyone who wants to become a Peer Educator register now for the initial Peer Educator training session, which is next Monday, Sept. 15, from 5 - 9 p.m. Supper will be provided. We need your name, telephone number, and email address in order to register you. Please contact Jennifer Walker, Vice President for Training, at Gennifer23@aol.com. You can also register by calling the Counseling Center at 7720, but we prefer email registration.

If you aren't sure you want to be a presenter, but you want to be a SABER member, we strongly recommend you attend the training so you can be knowledgeable about the issues. There are many ways you can help SABER even if you are not comfortable with public speaking, but please do attend the training.

If you have a class conflict and can't attend the entire training, please let us know this when you register and we will try to work out an additional session for those who have missed part of the training.

If you are an experienced Peer Educator from last year, you do not have to attend the Sept. 15 meeting, but you do need to plan to attend our regular SABER meetings for ongoing training. SABER dues are $5 per semester. Please be prepared to pay them to our Treasurer, Christy DeBusk, at the next meeting (what a bargain!).

Our Public Relations group is making up Peer Education training flyers. We'd appreciate it if you would stop by the Counseling Center office (213 University Center) on Thursday and pick up some to distribute anywhere you go on campus. Also, please ask your professors if you can make an announcement in class and tell people about Peer Education training. One of our PR people suggested this as a very effective way to recruit people. Also, talk to your friends and see if some of them may want to join us. Make sure you announce the need to register for the training as soon as possible, since we have to make up notebooks.

Finally, be sure to mark your calendars for our regular SABER meetings, the second and fourth Monday of each month. The next meeting is September 22 at 6 p.m. (but don't forget training on September 15). We will meet in UC 229 unless we outgrow the room, which would be a good problem.

I know this is a busy time for everyone, but we are going to have a great year and it is important to get your training and be ready to go!
