Cooper hosts Halloween extravaganza

This year Cooper Hall RHA and the Housing department decided to turn Cooper into a Halloween extravaganza. There were games, costumes, and most of all food.

Cooper had free tattoos for the kids as they entered, then filled them with food, offered them games to play, and then finally a night of true trick or treating - college style.

The residents, RAs, and community members were all invited.

Cooper served snack food and Skyhawk Orange Punch, which was served by none other than Darla Young, an RA in Cooper.

When the kids were through stuffing their faces they exited the lobby into the games area.

There was the bean bag toss and musical chairs, just to name a few.

Lily Blanco, a resident of Cooper and a sophomore Psychology major from Hendersonville, was happy to help with the Halloween activities, and had a fun time playing with the kids.

While helping with the games, she met characters such as Harry Potter, Snow White, and the Hare from Alice in Wonderland. The kids were given tickets for winning and they could have used those tickets to trade for items in the lobby.

Kids certainly did not go home empty handed.

After playing games in the courtyard the kids were escorted by their parents to the different floors of Cooper. Several suites had bought candy to give to the several trick or treaters at the door. The residents really did a wonderful job making these little kids feel special.

“Seeing the college students interacting with the kids was great,” said Laura Vick, a sophomore Social Work major from Columbia. “I think we had more fun than the kids did!”

“I think everyone had a fun time,” said Amy Cohea, the Hall Director of Cooper and Austin Peay. “The kids, residents, and parents all seemed to enjoy the festivities. And I am sure that the same will happen next year.”

After all is said and done Housing was sure to have made Halloween, which can be a stressful time for many parents, a happy and enjoyable experience.
