Common's CD 'Electric Circus' deemed horrible, harsh to ears

1/2 of 5

With his 2002 release of Electric Circus, Common made his latest attempt at making a decent CD.

Unfortunately, his latest attempt, much like his first in his album Like Water for Chocolate, failed horribly.

Despite a few decent songs, I found the CD to be no more than generic wanna-be rap sounds.

Most of the songs have good beats, but, in my opinion, Common’s voice is neither interesting nor entertaining in any way.

Two of the worst songs on the CD included tracks two and four. Both of the tracks were good tracks to support my opinion about the CD.

Track two, Soul Power, had good beats that were overshadowed by the generic rap sound of Com-mon’s voice.

Track four, Electric Wire Hustler Flower, featuring Sonny of P.O.D., was, bluntly stated, harsh to the ears. Add bad beats to an annoying voice and that would be the result.

The only halfway decent songs were tracks five and nine. Track five, The Hustle, featuring Omar and Dart Chillz, would make a good dance mix in a club, but only if you were deeply intoxicated.

Track nine, I Got Right Ta, featuring Pharrell Williams, was perhaps the best song on the CD.

The CD did feature many other famous artists, including Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Omar and Dart Chillz, Pharrell Williams, Cee-Lo, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Lonnie “Pops” Lynn, Bilal, Sonny of P.O.D. and Winia Mojica and Marie Daulne of Zap Mama.

One surprising thing about the guest artists is that even with their talent, Common still could not develop a good CD. This is definitely not their best work.

Overall, I give this CD half of one star out of five possible stars. I think that if Common wants a good CD, he should take some lessons from a few of his guest artists, such as Mary J. Blige or Jill Scott.
