Coming soon: Pike Fights XIV

It's that time again for the brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha to present their annual Pike Fights. Pike Fights will take place tonight at the Elam Center. The fights will begin at 7:00 p.m. and are expected to last until 10:30 p.m.

Advance tickets have been on sale for $5.00 at the information desk in the UC. General admission is $7.00 at the door.

This is the 14th year that the Pikes have sponsored Pike Fights.

Pike Fights consists of different fraternities in different weight classes challenging each other to a boxing match. It is an exciting competition that draws in students and the community from miles around.

A first place trophy will be given to the fraternity that dominates a majority of the matches. Fraternities that are participating in this year’s Pike Fights are Alpha Tau Omega, Alpha Gamma Rho, Kappa Alpha Order, and, of course, Pi Kappa Alpha.

“These guys are willing to put their pride on the line for a great cause. On behalf of the brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha, I would like to thank each fraternity for their support and participation,” said Brian Patterson, coordinator for Pike Fights XIV.

Pike Fights is the main fund-raiser that Pi Kappa Alpha has to raise money for their philanthropy, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis. All proceeds from ticket sales and entry fees will go to benefit Le Bonheur. Last year the Pikes were able to send $5,000 to their philanthropy.

“We hope to top that amount this year,” said Patterson. “We will need the support of the students in order to do that. So, please come out tonight and support these guys and Le Bonheur.”
