Circle K full of community

I am writing in response to “Greek ties lead to success? Maybe not” by Earl Hassett in last week’s Pacer.

At the end of his commentary, he said “Your best bet for future success: study hard, earn top marks, and do community service through inexpensive, nonexclusive organizations like Circle K.”

As the current vice-president for the UTM chapter of Circle K and a three year member, I was surprised to see the club mentioned by someone other than a club member.

Mr. Hassett is not nor ever has been a member of our chapter.

He is more than welcome to join our organization since he obviously knows who we are and what our purpose is.

As for the Greek issue, Circle K fully supports any organization that wishes to do community service. Almost all of our chapter’s incoming officers are members of the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon and we look forward to what these young men have to offer to our organization.

The comment was appreciated but the context was not quite appropriate. We support anyone who wishes to do community service and will do all possible to pitch in if desired.

We have had and currently have members also involved in the Greek system. We stand behind anyone desiring to better his or herself by joining an organization with that share similar values and goals.

Do not lose sight the true meaning of community service. As long as we keep that common goal in sight, we all will be just fine.
