Cat's Call

Hey UTM sports fans. I have a bit of news for you, good and bad. Since in my experience it has always been better for me to hear the bad news before the good, I'll give it to you like that. Bad news is the sports section won't be as full as it normally is. I have only a certain amount of space to place articles as of last week. The good news is that you can still find all the UTM sports information on our online pacer website (http://pacer.utm.edu/).

I'm sorry that you won't have the luxury of opening up the paper and finding all of the campus sporting news. Maybe next semester we'll have it worked out again.

Back to sports, our men's and women's basketball seasons are just about up, they both have one more home game each so get out there and support them. Our baseball and softball seasons are also coming in full swing and not looking bad at all. Golf and Rodeo are also coming in on the scene pretty soon. UTM hosts the rodeo this year on Thursday, April 10th, it should be exciting, it always is. The Track team will soon be finishing their indoor season with the OVC conference coming up Saturday, the 28th in Charleston, Illinois.

So how about those EKU and TSU players that decided to have a brwal during game time? Apparently with eight minutes left in the second half of the game EKU’s Shawn Feilds and TSU’s Cediric Bryson had a little incident under the basket and were both kicked out of the game.

Shortly after that while the referees were assessing penalties, TSU’s Cooperwood put an EKU player in a head lock. Ofcourse the EKU player had to either fight back or get strangled to death so both got thrown out too. Eventually most of both teams and their coaches joined in and were thrown out of the game.

The game resulted in the suspension of 19 NCAA basketball players and the game having to be finished with a four on four play due to all of the other players getting tossed out.

Also due to both the coaches getting ejected from the game, we had the first female men’s basketball coach to ever coach a game, or the rest of a game.

It’s always great to point and laugh when our school isn’t the source of entertainment. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am very proud to called a Skyhawk.
