Cash prizes offered to students for original one-act productions

(La Jolla, CA.) -- The American Theatre Co-op (ATC) is now accepting applications for its 2003 Fall Scholarship Competition for Original One-Act Plays.

This year’s award includes a $1,000 cash prize, a free subscription to the student’s choice of either American Theatre magazine or The Journal of American Drama and Theatre, and free membership in the ATC for as long as the student remains enrolled in school.

To participate, students must be at least 18 years of age, legal residents of the United States, and enrolled on at least a half-time basis. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome.

Although applicants need not major in playwriting, they should demonstrate -- through course selection or extracurricular activities -- an interest in playwriting as a possible vocation. Only one-act plays will be accepted and submissions must be postmarked by June 2. The winner will be notified on August 1. The ATC is a member-funded program that is administered by Buckley Dramaturgy and exists for one sole purpose: to identify and cultivate a new generation of Great American Playwrights.

For additional information, students are encouraged to visit the ATC Web site at www.AmericanTheatreCoop.com. Applications may be obtained by e-mailing AmericanTheatre@aol.com.
