Campus visitor leaves mark on Explorer, McCord hall window

A campus visitor last weekend apparently damaged himself, a 2001 Ford Explorer and a window in McCord Hall.

According to a police report from the Office of Public Safety, one of its student workers reported that, shortly after midnight on March 28, a male had just kicked a Ford Explorer parked in Lot 9. When Officer David Sliger arrived, he found the suspect leaving the parking lot in a white Ford Crown Victoria.

Sliger pulled the vehicle over and noticed that the driver's hand was bleeding. Sliger then contacted EMS, who said the driver would likely need stitches. He was then transported by Public Safety to Volunteer Community Hospital for treatment. The driver was identified as Jeremy Brooks, 21, of Dyer.

Further investigation into the incident led Sliger to find more damage caused to the Ford Explorer. In total, the damage included two dents in the rear of the vehicle, a windshield wiper ripped from the rear window and thrown in the parking lot, a dented driver's side door and a smashed side mirror on the driver's side.

Blood was found in several places on the vehicle. Shoe prints were also found in the dents.

The officer then followed a trail of blood from the vehicle to the dorm room of a female student who lives in McCord Hall and who also owns the damaged Ford Explorer. Upon entering the dorm room, Sliger observed a large hole in the room window with blood in the area.

A blood trail also led from the dorm room to where the suspect's vehicle was originally parked.

The female later told OPS that she did not wish to press charges for the damage to her vehicle.

Brooks was, however, issued a misdemeanor citation for vandalism under $500 for the damage caused to the dorm window. Housing has reported that the cost of the window is $96.66.

Brooks has been referred to Weakley County General Sessions Court.
