'...but Amy knows better'

A column by Asst. Sports Editor Amy Eddings

If you haven’t noticed, there’s a small lack of testosterone on the sports page this week. Maybe the absence of “Schmo Knows” or no talk of bookies and “hot chicks playing sports” gave it away.

This is because Joe is somewhere on a boat in the Atlantic on a belated honeymoon. Must be nice to get to take a week off (the week of his birthday, no less) and go cruise around the Caribbean...lucky ****** *** (nice try, Amy).

Now for something sports related: I FINALLY got to go see the baseball team play for the first time last Saturday. The second game was awesome. It’s games like that, which come down to the last AB, that remind me why I love the sport so much. That and the uniforms, which a few guys on the team wear better than I thought they would... Hope you guys up the number in your W column this weekend against the Trojans! Good luck!

I had every intentions of going out and supporting the softball team Wednesday afternoon, but thanks to Mother Nature, those games were cancelled. Guess I’ll just have to wait till they get back from Louisville to go watch. Good luck this weekend, ladies!

In national sports news: The Wildcats won again, twice this week, no less. Not that anyone else around here me cares other than me, but hey. To quote my boss, “I have a column and you don’t.” When you do, then you can preach the glories of Vol-dom...but that would really only apply during football season.

Speaking of the Vols, would someone please explain to me the situation between UT and Alabama? Apparently, the Crimson Tide is calling foul on the way that their NCAA investigation went down. I would love to rant on this subject, because any chance to go off about UT I get is great, but I don’t know enough about it. So, if someone could fill me in, I’d appreciate it.

Back to college basketball, dance time is quickly approaching and two teams are still undefeated. How is this possible? Seriously, when was the last time this happened? With conference tourneys wrapping up soon, it should be interesting to see if Stanford or St. Joe’s actually make it to the Alamodome.

Intramural basketball wraps up this week. Everyone should go out there and watch. Those sorority girls get pretty aggressive. I saw a few elbows thrown the other night. The championship games are Tuesday night from 6:30-9:30 in the Fieldhouse.

Joe should be back next week, tan and ready to rant about who knows what. I just hope I don’t have to hear about how wonderful the Caribbean was. I mean, I love Martin, but there are just too few palm trees here for my taste.

Until next week, get out there and support UTM athletics.

GO SKYHAWKS!
