Books to aid in end-of-semester paper blues, stress

(NAPSI)-After the first few weeks, students find out what they need beyond the “back-to-school” supplies and the right reference books may be high on the list.

Students today start writing research papers as early as the fifth grade. Veteran middle-school and high-school teacher, Geraldine Woods, knows this process can be intimidating and has written Research Papers For Dummies® (Wiley, $16.99), as an easy-to-use reference.

From selecting a topic, to organizing findings, to properly citing sources, this step-by-step guide can be a great resource for students, parents involved in homeschooling or even businesspeople taking on new projects.

One million students will take the SAT I this year. The new fifth edition of SAT I For Dummies ($16.99) will help give them a competitive edge.

This book is designed for students who are taking the SAT I for the first time, as well as those who want to take the test again to improve their scores.

Fully revised to reflect the recent emphasis on targeted reading questions and math logic, it is filled with sample questions and two full practice tests.

The world of CliffsNotesª is bigger than many people realize. Along with Literature Notes, CliffsAPª and CliffsCompleteª, there are CliffsQuickReviewsª.

These concise reviews help junior-high through graduate level students make the grade in dozens of introductory-level courses.

CliffsQuickReview Algebra I ($9.99) helps with core algebraic concepts-from monomials, to roots, radicals and word problems. CliffsQuickReview Biology ($9.99) effectively covers basic biology concepts, i.e., cellular functions, genetics and ecology.

Most parents haven’t had to deal with any of these subjects since their own school days, which makes helping with homework hard. They can use the Cliffs- QuickReview guides too.

Webster's New Worldª College Dictionary ($23.95)-with a newly updated fourth 2002 edition released in September is a staple on journalists’ desks as well as students’.

The dictionary and thesaurus software is bundled with the special edition of Webster's New World College Dictionary ($34.95). Unlike other dictionary CD-ROMs, this application adds the complete text of the dictionary and Webster's New World Roget's A-Z Thesaurus into any Windows 95/98 application.

Webster's New World American Words of Freedom ($9.99) features the full text and expert commentary on the documents that frame freedom.

Given world events today, students will find new personal relevance in the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the subsequent amendments. President George W. Bush’s emotionally charged Sept. 20, 2001, speech is a fitting addition to these works.

A successful academic year requires support at many levels-your own attitude, good friends, great parents and, more often than you might expect, having the right study aids when and where you need them.
