Baseball Classic helps St. Jude

The Alpha Tau Omega Zeta Pi chapter began a new tradition this year with a new event - the St. Jude Baseball Classic.

Having observed other civic organizations that sponsor high-school tournaments, the ATO chapter felt that they could sponsor and run a tournament as well. Baseball was an easy choice and having it in the spring coincided with the “PUSH”for St. Jude. The baseball tournament was held March 24 - 27 at the field in Dresden.

Since the use of the field was donated and ATO provided the concessions, the tournament made a straight $3,000 profit for the St.Jude Children’s Hospital.

“We want to make the “PUSH” a bigger deal. The reason that is, is that the children of St. Jude don’t deserve just a semester of our hard work, they deserve as much of our time as we can give them.”

The six teams that entered the tournament were Dresden, Dyer Co., Gibson Co., Henry Co., Huntington, and Obion Central. The championship came down to Henry County and Dyer County with Henry County prevailing 7-2.

“We would like to thank everyone who donated their time and effort to make this work. It means a lot to ATO, but most of all, it means a lot to the children of St. Jude,” said committee chairman Matt Sturdivant.
