ATO, AOPi capture top honors in Lip Sync

Greekfest events continued with Lip Sync on Friday in the Skyhawk Fieldhouse. The theme for this year’s show was “What’s the word?” Groups selected one word and used songs that contained that word in the title.

Eight groups competed in two categories: fraternity and sorority.

In the fraternity division, Alpha Tau Omega captured first place and best of show with the word “shake.” Their skit featured a Greek Week Jeopardy theme with the three contestants guessing the word at the end of the performance. They performed to hits like Shake Your Bon-Bon, Shake, Rattle, and Roll and Shake your Booty.

Sigma Phi Epsilon took second place in the fraternity division with the word “bye.” Their skit featured a UTM Idols theme, complete with Simon, Paula and Randy. Potential idols performed Goodbye, Earl, Bye Bye Blackbird and Bye, Bye, Bye.

Alpha Gamma Rho used the word “cowboy” and performed to songs like Ghetto Cowboy, Should Have Been a Cowboy and Cowboy, Take Me Away. Their finale featured Kid Rock’s Cowboy.

Pi Kappa Alpha used the word “shake.” A Ricky Martin impersonator shook his bon-bon in leather pants and lip syncers roller-skated to Shake your Booty.

In the sorority division, Alpha Omicron Pi took first place with the words “rock ‘n’ roll.” With Kiss face paint, they performed Rock ‘n’ Roll All Night. Their finale featured We Built This City (on Rock ‘n’ Roll) with signs depicting restaurants, bars and stores in Martin.

Alpha Delta Pi captured second place in the sorority division with the word “shake.” They tried a Spanish twist with Shake Senora. One ADPi shook it to Shake Your Booty. Their finale was Shake your Tail Feather.

Zeta Tau Alpha won best of show with their ZTA clubhouse theme using the word “girl.” They performed to Uptown Girl, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Girl you Know It’s True. Their finale featured My Girl.

Chi Omega performed with their theme, Women on the Move. They performed to Movin’ on Up and the country hit I'm Moving On.

Groups were judged in three areas: lip sync, originality and costumes.

Judges included Mike Munkle, Rhonda Shanklin, Luther Mercer, and Doug Cook.

Cook stated, “They all did a terrific job. The crowd was enthusiastic. There was so much energy and enthusiasm.”
