Arts Council presents Klein, world-renown pianist

The UTM Arts Council will present the world-renown pianist, Andreas Klein, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 in the Harriet Fulton Theatre.

The Andreas Klein concert is the second presentation of the UTM Arts Council performing arts series for 2002-03.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, Andreas Klein will conduct a two-hour master class, from 10 a.m. - noon in the Harriet Fulton Theatre.

Andrea Klein’s career as a soloist has taken him to numerous of the world’s prestigious venues: London’s Wigmore Hall, the Philharmonic Hall in Berlin, New York’s Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and the National Gallery in Washington and to major concert series in Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Rome, Milan, Los Angeles, San Diego, Cleveland, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Houston and in Chicago at the “Dame Myra Hess Series.”

He has toured internationally in Switzerland, Italy, France, England, the Middle East and in his native country Germany. A Musician’s Portrait, filmed in conjuction with a concert at the Neuhardenberg Castle near Berlin and his recital with the late Beethoven Sonatas at the National Gallery in Dresden were aired nationally.

Klein has been frequently heard on NPR’s Performance Today and with live broadcasts across the country to introduce and attract television audiences to classical music, PBS produced and aired a series of short works called Intermezzo with Andreas Klein.

Highlights of the most recent seasons include the memorable debut at the Kennedy Center “…elaborate display of technical prowness… Klein resembled a sketch artist bringing a scene to life with quick virtuoso strokes and shading,” a live performance and interviews at WGBH Radio in Boston, an appearance at the Phillips Collection, Portland, Cal Tech in Pasadena and in Damascus, Syria.
