Arts Council presents first event of season

The UTM Arts Council presents the first theatre event of the season with Killing Lincoln, set for 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, in the Harriet Fulton Theatre in the Fine Arts Building.

The one-man performance, delivered by UTK theatre professor Terry Weber, is the first of four major performances.

Killing Lincoln imagines what might have happened if John Wilkes Booth had tried to represent The Death of Abraham Lincoln onstage.

Through Weber’s performance, the audience sees and hears Lincoln’s evolution from self-conscious, self-seeking politician to a man who humbly accepts the greatness of the role he felt called to play, even at the cost of his life.

The 55-minute performance will be followed by an open discussion with Weber and the audience. The actor will also lead a two-hour performance workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4 in the Harriet Fulton Theatre.

Killing Lincoln is offered in conjunction of the 10th Annual Southern Cultures Festival.

Individual tickets, available at the door only, for Killing Lincoln are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children.

Season tickets are on sale and will be sold at the door for the opening event. Season tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for senior citizens, $10 for UTM students and $70 for the entire family.

All season subscribers receive free admission to area arts series including Union City, Dyersburg, Paducah, Ky. and Murray, Ky. performances. For another $30, season subscribers can upgrade their arts council ticket to include four adult Vanguard Theatre tickets.
