Artist of the 21st century exhibit set for Humboldt

Artwork created by college students from five states will be displayed during the fourth annual “Artists of the 21st Century” exhibition, April 1-28, at the West Tennessee Regional Art Center in Humboldt.

The exhibition is being co-sponsored by the UTM Department of Visual and Theatre Arts and the center.

An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, with award announcements scheduled for approximately 7 p.m. Normal hours for the West Tennessee Regional Art Center, located at 1200 Main Street, are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Bill Hickerson, center director, chose 28 works by 26 artists from colleges in Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina and Tennessee.

The works range in style and media that showcase a wide array of student creativity.

“The number of participating artists in this year’s exhibition is the largest ever,” said Lane Last, assistant professor of Art, “and the quality of the work submitted highlights the strengths of art programs all across the South.”

Besides assistance from the West Tennessee Regional Art Center, Last said the exhibition has received generous support from the UTM Arts Council and the Southern Arts Federation.
