Area band works on getting big break in

Did you miss out on experiencing a live band Feb. 15? Flatline, with their newly released album, “No Way Out,” performed at the Stable, located at 230N Lindell Street.

Jason Puckett is the lead singer and guitarist, with Brian Ingram rocking the base, followed up by Chris Cottrell on drums.

All from the Dyer and Gibson County area, Flatline has been playing together for several years. They are running contenders for the Battle of the Bands in Jackson Tennessee.

Outside of the band they all work steady jobs to support their rise to fame. Traveling on tours and new equipment can be very costly without the backing of a major label.

When asked where Flatline will be in the next five years, the band members replied, “We would like to have that large record deal and be on every shelf in every music store in every town in America.”

Puckett leads the band as lead guitarist and lead vocalist. He lists his influences as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen and Carl Bell. “I started playing music when I was 18.

Music is my way of venting all of my negative emotions and bad feelings in a positive way,” said Puckett.

“Ever since I first picked up the guitar I’ve wanted nothing more in life than to be a famous rock star.”

Ingram plays the base for Flatline. He says he is influenced by Michael Anthony, Jeff Abercrombie and Nikki Sixx. “I got my first taste of music from sitting in my grandparents house on Sunday afternoons, watching my grandfather play his guitar.”

Skipping ahead to later in his life, Ingram says, “I fell in love with music when I heard Van Halen’s 1984 album. It was then that I decided that I wanted to become a musician.”

Rounding out the group on the drums is Cottrell. He is influenced by Kevin Miller, Mike Portony and Steve Smith.

“I’ve always loved music. My mom played piano and my brother played guitar. To this day I am constantly listening to music, even if it is just in my head” said Cottrell.

He’s had some learning experiences along the way. “With some new friends we started my first band. Every time a band broke up I learned more from it and things got better. Five bands later I'm in Flatline and loving every minute of it.”

The Band’s next show will be March 8 at The Stables on Lindell Street in Martin.

The band began playing around nine o’clock to a small crowd, but every one there seemed to be enjoying the music. They played many cover songs by such bands as Fuel, Three Doors Down, Godsmack, Staind, Saliva and The Foo-Fighters. Hitting every note, Flatline was very impressive.

They also played their own songs, some of which found their way to 105.7 The Quake.

Overall Flatline was the best thing going on last weekend in Martin .
