AOPi, Pike take Pyramid victories

The 2002 pyramid competition showed the stunt-building and chant-yelling sides of all the participants.

The routines were filled with chants, stunt building, tumbling and dance moves. The participants included: KA, Phi Sig, Pike, SigEp, SAE, AGR, ATO, Chi O, AOPi, ADPi and ZTA.

In the fraternity division, the first place went to Pike. Their routine had a stunt that showed their spirit for UTM, with each member wearing a t-shirt that represented every Greek organization and the UTM Skyhawks.

The brothers of KA wore white shirts and shorts and danced to music Regulators. They got into the act by ripping off their shirts.

The brothers of Phi Sig danced to Brass Monkey. Sigma Phi Epsilon, in jeans and black shirts, won over the audience with their many tumbling skills (tucks and backhandsprings).

As the song Hot in Here played, each member tore off their shirts. They also completed many basket tosses (including a tuck basket) and upside down stunts. They ended their performance with a push up move, with all members intertwined together.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon showed their spirit with yellow shirts and their letters in purple. The guys did stunt building and built a pyramid. A member of ATO also did a quite impressive tumbling pass.

The brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho, in white t-shirts and jeans, got the crowd involved while two-stepping to Cotton-Eyed Joe.

The group showed off their talent with an upside down stunt.

Rope Pull is the other homecoming tradion at UTM. The competition brought many vistors and fans of the unique tug-of-war.

The women’s divison pulled for a total of 15 minutes and the men’s divison pulled for 25 minutes.

The competition is an intense o ne that takes much practice time and devotion. The spectators cheer on their team in an intense atmosphere.

The teams are coached on when to pull together. This competition can cause much pain, but also show the true meaning of teamwork.

“It’s not every day you get to see hard working girls test their physical strength against one another in such a sportmanship manner and also have fun while doing so,” said Jenny Nicks, a junior Communications major from Union City.
