AOPi holds benefit BBQ

The sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi and the AOPi’s Mother’s Club, annually sponsor a Barbeque to benefit philanthropies around the community. This year the barbeque was held in the Elam Center during the basketball games between U.T. Martin and Murray State University. The proceeds of the barbeque this year were given to the family of Alan Moody.

On December 11, 2003, Alan Moody, a Martin resident and Westview High school sophomore, was critically injured in a serious car accident. He remains hospitalized at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.

During the UTM Men’s Basketball game on Tuesday, the sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi and the Mothers club presented a check for $4178.00, from the proceeds of the barbeque, to Mr. Bob Carroll and Mr. Ted Blackwell, friends of the Moody family.

Kristen Hauhe, chairman of the barbeque this year, said “AOPi appreciates the support that the community of Martin has given us over the years. I am glad that we can, in turn, help this community in their time of need.”
